This is a multi-level position within the levels of Engineer II & higher and the salary range for this position varies and is commensurate with skills, experience, and education.




Overtime work required based on business needs.  Frequent outdoor exposure to construction activity and remote areas during project evaluation and routing.  Must be willing and able to work inside and outside for extended periods of time.  Ability and willingness to perform in emergency situations.



This engineering position provides support to the Local/Territory operations personnel in all areas of operations and to provide engineering design and project management of major gas main expansion projects.



Performs routine engineering work requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks; receives close supervision on new aspects of non-routine assignments; using prescribed methods, performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer; may have minor responsibility for training and orientation; may schedule/coordinate projects with supervision and review; under the oversight of other engineers, prepare engineering analyses, write specifications and reports as directed.

1.       Develop standard designs and drawings as assigned for approval by others.

2.       Assist in the design and construction of the company’s larger volume gas facilities, to include: gas flow/process development, equipment specifications and RFQ, Material specifications and RFQ, Cost estimation, creation of design and construction drawings, oversight of permit acquisitions, coordination with other engineering disciplines or outside engineering firms, preconstruction planning and scheduling, recommend selection of contractors based on bids, coordination with contractors , construction inspection, completion of post project documentation and transmittals, receiving materials and services in SAP and invoice payments.

3.       Under supervision, provide Synergee modeling results to Local/Territory operations and Fuels Management staff.

4.       Under guidance from Senior Engineer or Manager, support Local/Territory operations on engineering specific issues as needed. Travel throughout the Company’s service area to provide support as needed.  

5.       Performs additional related duties as assigned by Manager, including gathering information and providing feedback and updates to department management on engineering and operations issues, and updates on pipeline supplier issues.


*Candidates may qualify in this multi-graded position as an Engineer II & higher level based upon skills, experience and education. Consideration for higher level position will require more experience directly related to the duties of the job in addition to meeting more of the preferred qualifications and requires more independent judgment, accountability and oversight, leadership and/or subject matter expertise in performance of this position.

Education and Licenses/Certifications


·         Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited institution

·         Valid driver license with a good driving record


·        Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited institution

·         Current Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certificate

·        Professional Engineering License in the State of Florida; or have valid FE/EIT and be eligible to become a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Florida

Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities


·         Minimum of 4 years of related work experience as an Engineer, Experience in the natural gas industry

·        Knowledge of relevant federal and state regulations as they pertain to natural gas distribution and transmission,

·         Knowledge of piping design and layout,

·         Ability to recommend alternatives in real-time on job sites as needed,

·         Proficiency in Synergi network modeling software (or equivalent),

·         Strong organizational and project management skills,

·         Good written and oral communications skills,

·         Knowledge of engineering procedures,

·         Ability to read and understand plans and alignment sheets,

·         Ability to problem solve and to analyze problems logically,

·         Good judgment



·         Six (6) or more months of related work experience in the natural gas industry;

·         Experience in AutoCAD and/or Microstation

·         Knowledge of Microsoft Project
