POSITION CONCEPT

The Energy Management (EM) Commercial Analyst positions support all of Tampa Electric Company’s mandated commercial conservation programs and communicate the safe and efficient use of energy to our customers. The Commercial Energy Management Team (CEMT) also supports marketing and sales of commercial Zap Cap and renewable energy programs. The analyst is responsible to ensure the programs are delivered in accordance with the Florida Administrative Code (FAC) and in a fashion that meets customer’s expectations. The analyst must consistently adhere to the standards that the company has filed with the Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC), in a cost-effective manner, as it relates to all demand side management (DSM) programs.  Also assists in modifying and /or changing commercial conservation programs and supporting systems, as necessary.

 

ADVANCEMENT IN PROGRESSION

Advancement to a higher level is based on value added to Tampa Electric Company through increased duties, responsibilities, and accomplishments. Advancement is not automatic, i.e. based solely on time in the job, but will be based on direct observation of the employee’s performance, accomplishments, qualifications, and the business and/or technical needs of the department.

 

 

ENERGY MANAGEMENT COMMERCIAL ANALYST II

 

The Level 2 - EM Commercial Analyst II will have demonstrated proficiency in all of the primary duties and responsibilities listed in the Level 1 - EM Commercial Analyst I position including completion of Tampa Electric’s in-house commercial energy auditing training program. Performs under moderate to minimal supervision and additionally receives mentoring and training from Level 3 – EM Commercial Analyst III and Commercial Program Manager.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs type I and type II energy audits for all customers from small/medium to large commercial/industrial customers and may assist in the performance of paid energy audits.

 

  • Supervises the performance of contractors and their workforces to ensure program standards are being met at all times. At times, may serve as lead for commercial conservation programs for monitoring the job performance and quality standards of contractors under program standards.  

 

  • Supports strategies and quality assurance by completion of EM field and office procedures for resolving FPSC complaints, which includes writing formal responses to complaints.

 

  • Participates in trade shows, safety events, and conducts presentations to increase awareness of the company’s commercial conservation programs, products and services, and promotes the safe use of electric technologies.

 

  • Provides mentoring and training to Level 1 - EM Commercial Analyst I, as directed by Supervisor.

 

  • Assists with development, implementation, and maintenance of DSM program activities. Associated duties include research, testing, and procedure development within the Company and with outside contractors. Also helps coordination of DSM related advertising, public announcements, and company sponsored brochures.

 

  • Reviews and evaluates all rebates and incentives associated with the company’s commercial conservation programs as well as reconciliation of commercial incentive dollars to submit appropriate journal entries to Accounts Payable.

 

  • Perform pre and post verifications, as required by various conservation program standards. Processes commercial rebates and prepares analysis to support payment of incentives associated with the company’s commercial conservation programs.

 

  • Must have proficient knowledge of the company’s commercial conservation programs including researching and performing rate analysis, rate comparisons, individual and aggregated load profiles, and customer energy benchmarking.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Required:            Associate degree from an accredited institution in accordance with TECO Energy’s education policy
Preferred:           Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in accordance with TECO Energy’s education policy

Licenses/Certifications
Required:            Certified Energy Management and/or Business Energy Professional (BEP or CEM) must pass examination required within one year of obtaining position. 
 

Valid driver’s license and use of reliable personal vehicle necessary to perform field activities anywhere in Tampa Electric’s service territory

Preferred:           CEM and/or BEP certification

 

Experience 
Required:            Minimum of 3 years of work experience related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position; or 2 years Energy Management experience with BEP certification.
Preferred:           Minimum of 5 years of work experience related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position.

 

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)

Required:           

  • Satisfactory completion of Tampa Electric’s in-house commercial energy auditing training program for small commercial facilities within 3 months, and large commercial/industrial facilities training program within 12 months of obtaining the position; Demonstrate proficiency through direct field observations the ability to conduct small commercial audits within 3 months of obtaining the position.
  • Above average mathematical, analytical, and decision-making skills to perform calculations necessary to administer conservation programs; ability to work independently, as well as, in a self-directed team; demonstrated proficiency in the knowledge of and ability to interpret Customer Relationship Management (CRM) data; knowledge of Tampa Electric’s standard grid system.
  • Be familiar with all company commercial conservation programs.  Knowledge of and experience in energy conservation practices and high bill resolution techniques to ensure proper follow-up to customer concerns. Have knowledge of electrical systems, mechanical systems, surge protection devices, and metering to provide technical information to customers.
  • Above average oral and written communication skills required to effectively present findings and information to customers. Have proficient planning and organizational skills. Above average judgment and decision-making skills needed to provide customers with the appropriate conservation recommendations and qualifications for the rebate programs.
  • Autonomous work schedule to maximize time available for field activities and meet customer requests in a timely manner which is within requirements of the FPSC.
     

Preferred:           Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office suite with an emphasis in Excel, the Energy Efficiency Collaboration Platform (EECP), and use of laptops and wireless technologies.


 

ENERGY MANAGEMENT COMMERCIAL ANALYST III

 

This position serves as a lead position within the CEMT that performs under minimal supervision. The Level 3 - EM Commercial Analyst III will have demonstrated proficiency in all of the primary duties and responsibilities listed in the Level 2 - EM Commercial Analyst II position including completion of Tampa Electric’s in-house commercial energy auditing training program. To develop, they will receive training and mentoring from the Supervisor/Manager, Commercial Program Manager, Program Coordinators, outside educators, and administrative staff.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain a high level of competence through ongoing training as it relates to marketing, engineering, financial analysis, and product knowledge. 

 

  • Performs type I, type II, and paid energy audits and field monitoring for all customers from residential to large commercial/industrial customers. 

 

  • Supports the development, implementation, supervision and maintenance of commercial DSM program activities. 

 

  • Provides technical support to commercial program manager and/ or supervisor on commercial rebates and incentives associated with the company’s commercial conservation programs. 

 

  • Provides support for developing and updating DSM related advertising, public announcements and company sponsored brochures. 

 

  • Provides emergency management planning support as determined by Supervisor/Manager and company guidelines during any company emergency. 

 

  • Assists in projects and additional assignments as directed by Supervisor/Manager. Supports strategies and quality assurance by completion of field and office procedures for resolving FPSC complaints and meeting company goals. 

 

  • Serves are CEMT liaison with external departments including Regulatory, Corporate Communications, and Safety to promote and/or change commercial conservation programs processes or initiatives. 

 

  • Maintain and enhance technical expertise by participation in professional organizations, such as the Association of Energy Engineers. 

 

  • Serves a lead role in the mentoring of others responsible for the execution of the company’s commercial conservation programs by assisting the Supervisor in increasing the technical knowledge and performance level of CEMT team members.

 

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Required:            Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in accordance with TECO Energy’s education policy

Experience

WORKING CONDITIONS
Schedule typically Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm with some extended work hours as necessary depending on workload.  Driving up to 25% of the day.  Up to 75% spent in combination of working with Customers, working outdoors in attics, on roofs, walking, bending, and climbing and up to 25% spent in office supporting documentation of program activities and providing back-office support.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ REQUIREMENTS

Physical ability to safely lift, carry and maneuver a 35-lb. ladder; and climb throughout attics or onto roofs either with internal access or ladder to perform audits and verifications in adverse conditions such as superheated attics and outdoors in sun and rain.
