What you will be doing if you are offered this position & accept:

 

Our Economic Development Manager supports and implements the company’s targeted Economic Development goals. Builds effective stakeholder engagement strategies with state, regional and local economic development organizations (EDO’s). Proactively develops and coordinates targeted industry research reports, incentive/rate marketing materials and other support in locating and promoting profitable and energy intensive business growth within the Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas footprint. As the company’s primary point of contact for existing and potential economic development customers, the Manager, Economic Development must exhibit the ability to articulate value proposition and solution offerings to ensure customer satisfaction while balancing the interest of the customer, regulatory agencies, local (EDO’s), and the company’s shareholders.

 

More specifically, our Economic Development Manager:

 

  • Develops and maintains strategic relationships with key state and local economic development stakeholders to promote company service areas and offerings to industry prospects. Works closely with External Affairs team to support corporate interest on key economic development organizations (EDOs).
  • Serves as the company and external affair team’s subject and policy expert on best practices, partnerships, strategies, and opportunities to implement the economic development business plan and company’s overall approach
  • Works with EDO partners to promote the company's service area as an attractive location for new business expansion through targeted business recruitment missions and attendance at significant national meetings and conferences
  • Serves as the lead representative and initial point of contact for new business prospects withing the economic development realm and coordinates the company response for specific site selection inquiries.
  • Lead regular meetings with internal and external stakeholders that support economic development. Gather and communicate relevant political, community and business intelligence supporting growth opportunities for Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas; when appropriate coordinate with internal business partners and leadership to influence customer, decisions related to relocation and/or expansion.
  • Lead development of draft proposals and targeted marketing outreach to customers, constituents, and economic development organizations. Responsible for the Company’s written response to business customers and economic development organizations request for energy incentives for economic development via Economic Development Rider, Commercial Industrial Service Rider and Special Contracts. Prepares rate calculations and annual bill estimates.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining database to track project activities, KPI’s and monthly reporting processes. Proactive in identifying emerging technologies to support the administration of the economic development strategies.
  • Consult with appropriate business units on prospective projects. Proactively review project plans to identify community/customer concerns and/or potential transmission, distribution, or gas pipeline infrastructure enhancements to meet customer energy needs.

 

What you must have before you can be considered:

 

  • 6+ years of work experience related to the Duties and Responsibilities of this position is required. Related experience consists of:  working for a local or state economic development organization, municipality or agency as an economic developer or in similar work for a business or association or other experience related to the position is an advantage.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited college in Economic Development, Business or any other related field of study.
  • Knowledge in one or more key areas related to the position, of economic development processes at local, state, or federal level.
  • Ability to understand complex regulatory and policy issues.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

 

In addition, the following will help you stand out above the crowd:

 

  • Experience working in electric and gas utility industry as in a capacity that deals with local governments and agencies, customer accounts, community groups, utility planning functions or public policy.
  • Knowledge of the utility sector.
  • Current professional certifications related to this position.  Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) is highly desired.
  • Advanced degree in related area of study.
