This position pays between $129,833.00 to $185,475.00 and is based on skills, experience and education of the successful candidate.

 

 

Senior level management position reporting to the VP Gas Operations. Provides leadership and support by directing all activities associated with transmission/distribution systems, engineering, new construction, measurement & regulation, SCADA operations, customer service field service, compliance & maintenance, meter reading, associated with the operations of a state-wide natural gas utility.  Responsible for all aspects of the department’s operation and is accountable for ensuring adherence to all company policies and operating requirements. Responsible for oversight of the safety, supervision, and development of a staff of more than 400 professional, technical, support and craft team members, as well as indirect supervision of 200 contracted employees. Responsible for overseeing delivery of reliable gas service to 350,000 customers in a safe and compliant manner.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversight of $618M in gas assets; accountable for the execution of $43M O&M budget and $180M Capital budget; and responsible for the obtainment of $78M Net Income and $7.5M Other Revenue.
  • Provides leadership that maintains an efficient, highly motivated organization which is committed to fulfilling the mission and achieving the goals of both Electric & Gas Delivery and Peoples Gas which is in alignment with company’s core values.    Provides guidance to leadership by communicating the company position on critical issues.
  • Provides leadership and strategy to both develop and manage short term and long term O&M and Capital budgets for the state-wide operating division.
  • Provides leadership for the operation and maintenance of the natural gas system operations to ensure consistency maximum to all natural gas customers and the general public.
  • Provides leadership of compliance of all Federal, States, and Local regulations governing natural gas operations.  Oversight of implementation of appropriate compliance objectives including execution of approved compliance plans; accurate documentation, maintenance schedule adherence, and plant asset management within establish time frames.  Oversight of effective quality controls is in place and results monitored and acted upon appropriately.  Oversee environmental compliance in all activities.
  • Provides strategic leadership in the development of company growth direction. Oversees the qualitative and quantitative analyses on potential business issues, opportunities, business ventures, and mergers and acquisitions.  Also responsible for leading new revenue producing expansion projects, and preparing recommendations, financial models, and studies for upper management.
  • Maintains a qualified, efferent and highly motivated work force, which is committed to fulfilling the mission of the operations group and doing it in a way which is in alignment with the company’s core values.
  • Provides oversight of compliance with Safety and Human Resources processes and programs as it related to leadership, development, training, selection, engagement, and compensation for all team members.  Provide strategic leadership, partnering with Corporate Human Resources, to successfully negotiate collective bargaining agreements.
  • Serves as Peoples Gas representative in industry organizations and activities related to the natural gas utility business.  Represents and advocates corporate position as a liaison with local government and State/Federal Regulatory Agencies for all operational and regulatory requirements impacting the natural gas business.
  • Provide leadership and support for Peoples Gas Storm Plan for the operating regions.  Leads emergency response activities prior to and following a storm/emergency event.

    Direct:    

    Territory Managers; Mgr. Gas Control, Measurement & Regulation

    Indirect: 

     Full time team members and contractor employees; indirectly supervises Safety Managers, supervisors, engineers, professional/technical employees, administrative employees and craft employees, some of which are represented by the labor unions. 

     

     

     

     RELATIONSHIPS

    Key Internal:     

    Interfaces with all levels of management including the President, Chairman and various Business Unit Vice Presidents, etc. 

     

    Key External:

    Customers, Governmental Agencies, Civic Associations, Educational Institutions, Other Company Representatives, Contractors, Business Partners, and Vendors, etc.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education           

    Required:        Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering and/or Finance

     (Note: Appropriate high-level extended management experience may

     substitute for degree at senior management discretion.)

     

    Preferred:  

    Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering and /or Finance

     

    Experience

    Required:

    Minimum of 10 years of work experience directly related to the duties & responsibilities of the position with increasing levels of responsibility, Including a minimum of 4 years of Leadership experience. Leadership experience must include demonstrated success in directing gas operations across a large geographic territory, negotiate critical business/labor union contracts, and provide leadership and industry expertise for business expansion opportunities, including strategic direction in mergers/acquisitions.

    Must have demonstrated strength in leadership development, strategic thinking, performance capability, and overseeing complex initiatives. Strong leadership and organization skills as well as excellent oral/written communications and presentation skills are required.
