Coord Contractor Safety & Stds


Can expect to work 8-hour days, Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime to meet deadlines and possible emergency response needs. Working conditions are both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Travel is required. 


Will be required to work in field conditions in and around active construction sites, wearing Personal Protective Equipment as required per the company policies and procedures. 


Regionally responsible for the oversight and compliance of the PGS Contract Business Partner Safety Program including performing data collection & reporting, incident escalation, and oversight of contractor performance. Perform field inspections and evaluations of active contractors performing work on Peoples Gas Transmission and Distribution systems. Assist in conducting incident investigations and root cause analysis per the PGS Safety Management System (i.e., gathering details, taking photos, performing interviews, etc.). Additionally, this position will evaluate the key elements of performance and score card indicators. Assist with implementation of standards and processes as they relate to contractor activities in compliance with required contractual obligations. 



  • Throughout all aspects of the duties, ensure that all work is performed safely and per the PGS Safety Management System.
  • Gain full knowledge of the PGS Contract Business Partner Safety Program and ensure that assigned contractors and assigned area PGS Engineering & Construction teams are fully aware of roles and responsibilities of the program.  Oversee the active compliance of the PGS Business Partner Safety Program and contribute to the ongoing enhancement of the program with the belief that all injuries and incidents are preventable.
  • Meets regularly with construction and contractor personnel to ensure compliance with PGS safety standards, OSHA standards and the PGS Safety Management System are being followed. Reviews contractor JHA’s and Operator Qualifications as needed to verify compliance.  
  • Responds to frequent requests from business unit management for ad-hoc reports, analysis, and assists with the establishment of additional processes for quality control. Produces regular reports that evaluate the overall performance of the contractors for all measured key areas as established by the company.
  • Monitors Distribution Construction Inspector(s) activity and follow-up with PGS Safety Leadership on any safety related concerns. Interacts with various departments and contractors to resolve discrepancies or variances. Collects data and information to help conduct audit investigations.
  • Provide statewide contractor guidance and support to ensure all work is performed safely per PGS Safety Management System and the PGS Contract Business Partner Safety Program. Build and continue strong working relationships with all contracted safety contacts. Assist with monthly meetings with top pipeline contractor’s safety management group to ensure alignment on safety initiatives. 
  • Collaborate with other functions within the PGS Pipeline Safety Team including damage prevention, emergency management & response, and environmental on near misses and/or incidents that occur, with the intention on properly resolving and pursuing future prevention of a similar occurrence.


  High School Diploma or equivalent/GED
Preferred:     Associate’ degree in related field from an accredited college/university


   Must have a valid Florida State Driver’s License with clean driving record


   Minimum of five years of work experience related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position is required.  Related experience consists of coordinating within utility operations, safety programs, operator qualification programs or compatible systems and programs at a utility.
Preferred:    Three or more years of related experience in contractor management, project management or change management; natural gas utility experience.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA) 
   Must have demonstrated good judgment, an exceptional ability to organize and prioritize daily work and/or assignments and to maintain effectiveness when handling multiple tasks. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to maintain effective working relationships is required. Must be computer literate, with intermediate knowledge of MS Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Must successfully function in a team environment.
Preferred:     Knowledge of Peoples Gas business practices including safety, standards, and procedures. Possess the advanced understanding of gas transmission and distribution operations and methods of contractor management.
