WORKING CONDITIONS

Must be flexible and able to work in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment - overtime will be required. This position is in an operating environment, compliance with Company and OSHA safety will be required.

 

POSITION CONCEPT

The primary responsibility of a Business Analyst is to support PGS Operations, Engineering/Construction, and Business Operations Support by providing operational statistical tracking, cost tracking, business metrics forecasting, and matrix development for process and procedural improvements. The Business Analyst performs recurring tasks that supports operational decisions and management reporting, including events analysis.  The Business Analyst responds to frequent requests from business unit management for ad-hoc reports and analysis and assists with the establishment of additional processes for cost control, operational effectiveness, and process improvement. 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares operational reports (compliance, financial, operational statistics) for PGS Operations, Engineering/Construction, and Business Operations Support. 
  • Works closely with technical financial staff to determine appropriate operational and support opportunities Periodically assists the service areas in the development of data presentation for business unit analysis as needed. 
  • Works with team members to provide process related data and operational data to determine areas for potential improvements. 
  • Assists in establishing procedures to improve costs controls and process improvement efficiencies, including development of operational systems and tools. 
  • Administers operational dashboards for PGS teams to provide data for analysis and improvement.  Assists with the development of business procedure documentation. 
  • Assists in coordinating the operating areas Administrative process and responds to frequent requests from management for ad-hoc reports and analysis.
  • Assists the Measurement Operations Analyst in areas related to consumption monitoring. Independently completes assignments, and works on projects, of moderate complexity requiring analytical skills and significant knowledge of business unit operations. 
  • Independently follows procedures necessary to support PGS Gas Operations, CRP Business Planning group and associated budgeting and financial performance objectives, programs and processes.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Required:       Minimum of High School Diploma or GED

Preferred:      Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field is preferred and may substitute for up to four years of related experience

 

Related Experience

Required:       A minimum of 8 years of related financial experience in a utility operating environment is required.  Related experience must include applying cost control and process improvements, prior spreadsheet modeling and PC database and mainframe experience (Access, TSO, QMF). 

Preferred:      Some utility accounting experience is preferred. Prior queries and macro programming experience is preferred, as well as experience with Cognos, Microsoft or other business intelligence systems.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Required:       Strong analytical, written and oral communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Access are required.  Must be very familiar with applicable business unit operations.
