Title: Service Technician/ Senior Service Technician

This position will be open to internal and external applicants and will close on Sunday August 18, 2019. 

The Service Technician position pays between $20.45/hr to $25.56/hr and the Senior Service Technician pays between $22.29/hr to $27.86/hr.  Both positions are based on skills, experience and education of the successful candidate.

 

Preferences

Jouneyman Gas Fitter's License a plus.

Successful candidate must be able to respond to emergency calls within a 30-mile radius of the desired posting location.

 

 

 

Service Technician

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills.

 

SUMMARY:

 

Under general supervision, performs a wide range of meter work and service requests, which includes repairs and troubleshoots routine to difficult/non-routine service problems, and may include servicing customer appliances.  Provides quality customer service by resolving customer inquiries and complaints in a professional/courteous manner.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Completes meter orders to include connects, disconnects, meter sets, and meter exchanges, in a timely and safe manner

 

Performs and completes service requests to include repair, adjustment, and investigation of high bill complaints

 

May investigate and respond to gas emergency orders and requests, such as blowing gas lines, in compliance with Company emergency and safety guidelines

 

Collaborates and consults with various individuals and groups to ensure the timely and safe completion of work assignments

 

Prepares and completes in a timely/accurate manner various/required reports in the performance of assigned duties, such as damage reports, odorant test reports and/or related system reports

 

Documents and maintains records such as final inspection, red tags, and permits

 

May be required to provide general assistance in any department and or function, as needed

 

COMPETENCIES:

 

Working understanding of all areas of service, including repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance

 

Working knowledge and demonstrated mechanical/technical expertise of all areas of service, including basic service and odorization

 

General knowledge of Company procedures and policies and local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to the duties assigned

 

Working knowledge of customer service functions

 

Ability to recognize potential and immediate hazards and acts in emergency situations

 

Ability to operate various tools and equipment related to service work, such as a GMI

 

Ability to troubleshoot all types of appliances, which may include repairing

 

Ability to analyze and resolve routine/complex meter, service, repair, and installation problems

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

 

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with zero to four years of directly related/comparable work experience and/or equivalent combination of related education and/or experience.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

 

Must be able to obtain and maintain all applicable Operator Qualifications (OQs).

 

Must successfully apply for and pass State of New Mexico exam in order to obtain a Journeyman Gas Fitters license within maximum 2.5 years.

 

Depending upon position and/or geographic location, may be required to have an MM2-Qualifying Party license.

 

Must at all times possess a valid driver's license and meet the acceptable driving record requirements of the Company.

 

Depending upon position and/or geographic location, may be required to possess a valid commercial driver's license and meet the acceptable driving record requirements of the Company.

 

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

 

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, general correspondence, and memos

 

Ability to write general correspondence and memos

 

Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, and other employees

 

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

 

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

 

Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs

ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY:

 

Ability to apply common sense and good judgment to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

Frequently required to stand and/or walk up to 2/3 of the time and sit up to 1/3 of the time. Manual dexterity required and the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, listen, taste and smell.

 

Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Exposure to outside weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and natural gas emergencies and situations.

 

Vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

 

Field environment.  May be required to work overtime and/or on call and handle emergency response as needed.  May be required to work at various job sites, out of town, and/or remote locations for extended periods.

 

Senior Service Technician

SUMMARY:

 

Under minimal supervision, independently performs meter work and service requests, which includes repairs and troubleshooting difficult to complex non-routine service problems and servicing customer appliances.  May function as a lead and delegate work assignments as needed or assigned.  Provides quality customer service by resolving customer inquiries and complaints in a professional/courteous manner.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
