POSITION CONCEPT The Gas Design Technician (GDT) & Gas Project Manager (GPM) progression supports PGS transmission and distribution system construction and maintenance projects. The GDT/GPM creates, initiates, and/or processes work requests in Power Plant and other Work Management systems (WMS), determines customer requirements, prepares piping system designs, cost estimates and feasibility analysis, interacts and coordinates with municipalities, FDOT, and others in maintaining and optimizing system integrity due to road improvements and system expansions, makes use of and updates the GIS and CRM-CIS systems, obtains necessary governmental permits and coordinates activities with all involved PGS departments to ensure the successful scheduling and completion of projects to achieve a high level of customer satisfaction. Advancement within the progression is based on value added to the company through increased duties, responsibilities, and accomplishments. Advancement is not automatic, i.e., based solely on time in the job, but will be based on the employee’s performance, qualifications, and the technical needs of the department.

WORKING CONDITIONS Work hours consist of a minimum of 8-hours per day Monday through Friday. Some overtime is required to meet Customer deadlines and storm response. Working conditions are both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. The level of stress is moderate to heavy depending upon the level of interaction with customers and governmental agencies. May be assigned to the Call-Out rotation schedule as an after-hours coordinator for emergency response.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS Physical demand requirements include working in field conditions, walking in rough terrain, lifting objects up to 50 lbs., and wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment in an 8-hour day.
JOB LEVEL 1: GAS DESIGN TECHNICIAN I Works under direct supervision on somewhat varied duties requiring judgment or simple analysis to determine course of action with limited latitude. At this level, GDT plans and coordinates the design and installation of gas distribution facilities, as well as maintains records and maps of the gas distribution system to meet company, state, and federal compliance regulations.

JOB LEVEL 2: GAS DESIGN TECHNICIAN II Advancement to this level is based on the business needs of the department. Advancement is not automatic, i.e., based solely on time in the job, but will be based on the employee’s performance, qualifications, and the technical needs of the department. At this level, the experienced GDT performs the described duties under limited supervision and works on assignments of increasing complexity and diversity. Provides leadership support on new construction projects and other various assignments of moderate complexity as needed.
