Title: Linespotter / Senior Linespotter

Shift: 8 Hr. X 5 Days

 

This position will be open to internal and external applicants and will close on Sunday October 24th , 2021.

Placement in either level is based on skills, experience and education of the successful candidate.

 

Preferences

Successful candidate must be able to respond to emergency calls within 30 minutes the Santa Fe Service Center.

 

Linespotter

 

SUMMARY:

 

Under general supervision, locates and marks underground plant facilities to prevent damage to utilities and to prevent injuries.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Locates and marks underground facilities as requested to prevent damage by other excavating contractors and individuals
  2. Maintains accurate records of work performed
  3. Develops knowledge of other utility underground and field construction practices
  4. Checks and repairs damaged coating on lines (as needed by location)
  5. Reports any unusual facilities problems to supervisor
  6. Maintains locating equipment to ensure accurate operating condition
  7. Works closely with other areas within the Company

 

COMPETENCIES:

 

  1. Common knowledge of other utility linespotting procedures
  2. Ability to operate Company-approved line locating equipment
  3. Ability to read maps and drawings
  4. Ability to research mapping records to locate necessary information
  5. Ability to coordinate and route scheduling
  6. Ability to operate linespotting equipment
  7. Ability to communicate, cooperate, and gain the cooperation of others

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED with up to three years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must be able to obtain and maintain all applicable Operator Qualifications (OQs).

Must at all times possess a valid driver's license and meet the acceptable driving record requirements of the Company.

 

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

Ability to effectively speak and present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, contractors and other employees

 

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Ability to use applicable job-related software

 

ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Regularly required to walk, sit, and stand up to 2/3 of the time.  Manual dexterity required and the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, talk, and listen.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.  Vision requirements include:  close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Field environment.  May be required to work overtime and/or on call and handle emergency response as needed.  May be required to work at various job sites, out of town, and/or remote locations for extended periods.

 

 

Senior Linespotter
 

SUMMARY:

 

Under direct supervision, locates and marks underground plant facilities to prevent damage to utilities and to prevent injuries.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Assists coordinator in routing workload and keeping files updated.
  2. Locates and marks underground facilities as requested to prevent damage by other excavating contractors and individuals.
  3. Assists all areas in Linespotting.
  4. Assists spotters with any problems that arise.
  5. Maintains accurate records of work performed and coordinates special projects.
  6. Develops knowledge of other utility underground construction practices.
  7. Meets department goals and accepts responsibilities with little or no immediate supervision.
  8. Checks and repairs damaged coating on lines.
  9. Reports to coordinator any unusual problems pertaining to facilities.
  10. Maintains locating equipment to ensure accurate operating condition.
  11. Works closely with other areas such as Construction, Inspectors, Drafting, and Leak Survey.

 

COMPETENCIES:

 

  1. Ability to operate line-locating equipment including the pipe horn, Nilsson and Metro Tech, and the sub, site 650.
  2. Ability to read and update maps and drawings, services, and main cards.
  3. Ability to find any information needed from the Drafting Department.
  4. Ability to coordinate scheduling.
  5. Ability to operate gas scope along with linespotting equipment.
  6. Ability to communicate, cooperate, and gain the cooperation of others.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with four to five years experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:

Must be able to obtain and maintain all applicable Operator Qualifications (OQs).

Must at all times possess a valid driver's license and meet the acceptable driving record requirements of the Company.

 

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, and memos.

Ability to write complex correspondence.

Ability to effectively present information to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization, one-on-one and in small group situations.

 

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Ability to use general office equipment, a personal computer, and MS Word Processing software.
