POSITION CONCEPT: 
The Technical Trainer develops, schedules, and facilitates skills-based electrical and I&C technical training.  Serves as a mentor for technical skills development and facilitates ongoing development feedback with performance coaches.  Updates training programs to ensure that training materials reflect current work methods and equipment.  Designs, validates, and maintains progression and continuing electrical and I&C training programs and materials, and manages the delivery of these training courses.  Act as lead developer for instructor-led and computer-based electrical and I&C training courses. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develop, schedule, and facilitate Energy Supply skills-based training courses in both classroom and field settings, adjusting lesson plans accordingly and as needed.  
2. Perform Job Task Analysis to determine knowledge and skill requirements of progression and continuing training program.
3. Design and conduct written and hands-on assessments for electrical and I&C recruiting.
4. Write procedures and guidance documents to govern and administer training programs.
5. Coach performance, mentor, and develop technical skills and appropriate behaviors; communicate department policies and work rules; monitor trainees to ensure compliance with Safe Work Practices and HEC procedures; and provide trainee performance feedback to performance coaches for ongoing trainee development.
6. Ensure that proper tools, equipment, and techniques are used to perform all work in an efficient and safe manner.  Ensure that all tools and equipment are appropriately inspected and properly maintained.
7. Evaluate and engage external vendors to conduct required or needed progression and/or continuous technical training.
8. Coordinate with the Manager, Safety to evaluate ES electrical safety programs; design and conduct safety training as appropriate.
9. Evaluate new plant construction projects for training requirements.  Coordinate and/or implement necessary training during the installation process.
10. Work closely with the Manager, Human Performance to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training and modify programs as required.
11. Research and evaluate new industry products and programs as appropriate.
12. Participate on company committees as appropriate.

 

EDUCATION:
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Bachelor's degree in a technical area from an accredited college or university is preferred and may be considered in lieu of up to 6 years of related experience.

 

EXPERIENCE:
Required: Minimum of ten years of related experience in power plant or industrial facility electrical and/or I&C maintenance., Demonstrated experience in the delivery of training in a classroom and field setting
Preferred: Minimum of five years of industrial training experience in a classroom and field setting.

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Required: 
Technical writing, presentation, and communication skills are essential to effectively develop and deliver classroom and field instruction and assist with maintenance of standard operating procedures and training programs and internal and external communications. 
Advanced knowledge and technical proficiency in all aspects of electrical and I&C maintenance with proven credibility through confidence and competence in subject matter. Strong understanding of materials, tools and equipment pertaining to Energy Supply.
Must demonstrate an aptitude to grasp technical concepts, formalize ideas and effectively communicate them, budget time effectively, and utilize resources efficiently.
Must be able to lead and manage projects and programs from idea to implementation. Must have excellent people skills required to build positive customer relationships and the ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse work group.
Proficient computer skills, including a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite software. 
Preferred:    
Extensive knowledge of TECO Safe Work Practices and HEC Program procedures.
Functional knowledge and technical proficiency in all aspects of coal plant and combined cycle plant construction, operation, and maintenance.
Strong understanding of materials, tools and equipment pertaining to Energy Supply electrical and I&C maintenance.

 

WORK CONDITIONS:
When training in the field, must be able to work in conditions described in the Power Plant Worker (Craft) Energy Supply Physical Job Requirements documentation.
