This position pays between $59,420 to $74,275 annually and is based on skills, experience and education of the successful candidate.

POSITION CONCEPT

The Corrosion Coordinator provides oversight and direction of corrosion activities for the distribution and transmission facilities for all Florida Operations, to maintain Cathodic Protection (CP) compliance levels in a safe, efficient and environmentally sound manner.  Develop compliance standards and deliver quality assurance for all CP activities to ensure company, State and Federal compliance requirements are being met.  Serves as the principal means of coordinating the efforts of others to achieve active corrosion control.  

 

Works with limited supervisory involvement, and exercises a considerable amount of independent decision making; Leads the oversight/scheduling of CP design for new projects of varying degrees of complexity; Provides troubleshooting recommendations to remediate discovered deficiencies; Promotes a positive safety culture and environmental awareness.

 

May be required to perform corrosion coordinating duties in multiple gas operating divisions.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reviews, analyzes and advises Engineering in the design and planning of new CP and AC Mitigation systems.  Provides input to local management with specific project costs for budgeting purposes.
  • Conducts field inspections of CP and AC Mitigation surveys as needed to determine areas requiring further testing and cost-effective solutions.
  • Coordinates and reviews the testing requirements necessary for maintaining existing and the planning of new facility installations.
  • Provides leadership to others to troubleshoot corrosion and induced AC problems. Documents troubleshooting efforts and makes recommendations for remediation.
  • Provides assistance and oversight in the preparation of compliance records.  Makes technical recommendations when necessary that comply with State and Federal requirements. Provides technical assistance during annual CP inspections by regulatory agencies.
  • Performs special technical assignments and other job duties as required, including assisting other employees on an as needed basis.

 

EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

RequiredValid High School diploma or valid GED required

Required: Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record; Must hold a current NACE (National Association of Corrosion Engineers) CP Technician Certification or approved equivalent

 

EXPERIENCE:

Required: Minimum of 5 years of direct work experience performing Senior Corrosion Technician or equivalent duties and responsibilities

Preferred: Minimum of 5 years of experience interacting with Public Service Commission inspectors
 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Required: 

  • Must be fully proficient in dimensions, duties and responsibilities of a Senior Corrosion Technician. 
  • Strong working knowledge of engineering procedures and of the specific procedures related to corrosion engineering.
  • Must be proficient in the design of Cathodic Protection Rectifiers and associated ground bed design.
  • Must be proficient in AC mitigation principles.
  • Ability to read and understand maps.
  • Knowledge of all relevant municipal, state and federal regulations.
  • Mechanical ability to operate the testing equipment related to the specialty of corrosion engineering.
  • Ability to operate a company vehicle in a safe manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and follow/give oral and written recommendations and to problem solve and analyze problems logically.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Preferred: Knowledge of the geographic service area

WORKING CONDITIONS
Travel within the Territory’s operating locations required. Travel to PGS statewide operating locations as needed.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to independently drive a motor vehicle for approximately 2 hours in an 8-hour shift.
  • Must be able to independently enter or exit a motor vehicle approximately 4 to 6 times in an 8-hour shift.
  • Must be able to frequently bend or stoop requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Must be able to kneel and/or crouch by bending legs at knees to come to rest on knee or knees and/or by bending body downward and forward by bending legs and spine.
  • Must be able to walk and/or stand for extended periods of time to accomplish tasks.
  • Must be able to use upper extremities and back muscles in lifting objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects from position to position.
  • Must be able to grasp hand tools by applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palms.
  • Must have vision correctable to 20/40.
  • Must not have an average hearing loss greater than 40 decibels in the better ear at frequencies of 500, 1000 and2000 with or without a hearing aid.
  • Must be able to concentrate on details for an entire 8-hour shift.
  • Must be able to smell gas odorant in normal concentrations.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive motions of arms, hands and wrists for 1 to 1.5 hours straight without stopping for any extended periods of time (functions would include typing, filing, copying, etc.).
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time to accomplish tasks.
