The hourly wage for this position is $37.10.


Normal work schedule is a twelve (12) hour rotating shift with overtime work required to meet business needs.


Must successfully complete an OSHA required Respiratory Clearance which includes a Medical Questionnaire and Medical Exam including a Pulmonary Function Test.



The available IGCC Process Specialist positions are for journeymen level Instrumentation & Controls trade with strong I&C skills required.



The IGCC Process Specialist (P/S) is a multi-skilled position and is part of a high performance, self-directed team work environment and therefore must possess high technical and work standards.  The P/S is responsible for the operation and maintenance/troubleshooting of all equipment (electronic, pneumatic, hydraulic control, and drive systems, etc…) required to support Gasification and Power Generation. The P/S is required to perform maintenance/troubleshooting tasks that are at a journeyman level in Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) trade. Strong I&C skills are required.


These tasks are to be performed with the tools normal to the trade.  Operational duties include start-up, shutdown, normal and emergency conditions of plant equipment.  Operational duties are performed both in the plant areas and from the Control Room, depending on the P/S work area assignment.  P/S is expected to develop multi-skills (Electrical and I&C) and become proficient in multiple operational areas of the plant.  The P/S is expected to complete training for and be capable of performing Confined Space Rescue, First Aid/CPR First Responder duties, HAZWOPPER Technician level response, and Incipient Fire response. 




  • A valid High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of four (4) years of related journeyman level work experience in a large industrial complex maintaining and troubleshooting equipment in the I&C area.  Work experience must include preventative, predictive, and repair maintenance.
  • Experience operating various types of industrial equipment, including: forklifts, overhead cranes, golf carts, trucks, etc…



  • A two (2) year technical degree in this field of work is preferred.
  • Utility Power Plant, Process Industry and/or Petrochemical Plant experience



  • Ability to be exposed to ambient temperatures and the elements
  • Ability to work alone in assigned areas
  • Ability to perform some work in confined spaces as well as high places
  • Ability to hear speech, over radio and face-to-face, and alarms
  • Possess vision of at least 20/30 in one eye and 20/50 in the other eye with or without glasses and have
  • good visual perception including: depth, peripheral, and color differentiation
  • Ability to climb and descend fixed ladders and up to twenty flights of stairs with sufficient balance and coordination to maneuver on and amongst ladders, stairs, equipment and curbing
  • Ability to sit, stand and/or walk for long periods of time
  • Ability to perform physical work while bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 50 pounds, and/or carrying up to 20 pounds
  • Physical ability to wear a variety of respiratory devises, to include: half-face air purifying respirator, full-face air purifying respirator, SCBA, and supplied air respirator in addition to other personal protective equipment (PPE). These devices will keep chemical exposures to a minimum, but there are many different exposure potentials: H2S, CO, Hydrogen, SO2, SO3, Nitrogen, Carbon Dioxide, and Sulfuric Acid.
  • Since Polk is an electrical generation facility, the P/S Mechanics are exposed in some areas to EMF fields. Additionally, there are some very small dose exposures to microwaves and gamma radiation sources.
