Manager, Human Resources



Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources, this position is responsible for managing a variety of Human Resources (HR) functional areas and staff in the areas of Talent Acquistion, Learning and Development, Compensation, Benefits, Employee and Labor Relations. Oversees the delivery of corporate HR processes, including providing strategic direction for appropriate application. Ensures all team members are in compliance with company policies and state and federal laws/regulations. Represents the company in employee-related issues. Serves as advisor and provides HR-related strategic leadership to the business unit leaders and performance coaches.



  1. Serves as HR subject matter expert (SME) to business units, including developing business unit policies that align with corporate HR direction. Provides HR strategic leadership, drives change initiatives, contributes to the accomplishment of company/area goals, and demonstrate business acumen.      
  2. Leads and/or oversees internal investigations in areas of responsibility, and represents the company or area in matters involving charges, complaints, employee and/or labor relations matters and the problem resolution process.     
  3. Develops and implements workforce planning strategy. Manages retention strategies and succession plans for business units.
  4. Oversees the consistency in Performance Management processes, to include Positive Discipline administration.     
  5. Oversees all health and welfare benefits plans for all active team members, retirees, and survivors. Oversee the administration of the benefit programs and ensure compliance with all federal and state laws and comply with governmental reporting and disclosure requirements.
  6. Manages the Compensation programs for the company to align the compensation strategy with the business units. Oversee and provide communication materials to effectively educate all business units on Total Direct Compensation (TDC) and incentive programs.
  7. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Vice President, HR.




                                            Direct Supervision:    Two (2) or more Human Resources positions

                                            Indirect Supervision:  May occasionally supervise external consultants



                             Key Internal:      Regular contact and communication with all levels of officers, management and team members within New Mexico Gas and Affiliates. Frequent internal contact with departments across the organization and affiliate companies.

                             Key External:     May work with external agencies, consultants, or legal counsel. Networks with HR professionals from other organizations. May negotiate with suppliers of professional services. 




Required:    Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field  

Preferred:    Master’s degree in Business, Human Resources or related field



                             Required:    Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet the acceptable driving record requirements of the Company.

                             Preferred:    PHR (Professional in Human Resources), SHRM-CP, or other HR-related professional certification(s).


Related Experience 

                             Required:    Six (6) years of Human Resources, with managing more complex assignments progressively, and demonstrated core knowledge of Human Resources functions required. 

                             Preferred:   Nine (9) years of Human Resources with three (3) years of Employee and Labor Relations


                            Supervisory Experience

                            Required:    Three (3) years of supervisory experience.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)

                             Required:    Demonstrated ability to work independently with critical attention to detail and carry out assignments and/or projects to completion by meeting the deadline parameters. Must have knowledge and/or experience in all HR functional areas.     Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply HR laws and company policies. Must have excellent inter-personal ability to communicate effectively (both verbal and written) and lead productivity with a diverse workforce. Must be able to multi-task with competing priorities and meet deadlines with short time frames. Demonstrated the ability to problem-solve creatively, with a solution-focused approach, by using superior analytic proficiencies, business acumen, innovation, and strategic thinking. Strong presentation skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Normal office environment. Occasional field visits where travel is required. Field visits may require personal protective equipment needed including but not limited to, safety glasses, puncture resistance boots, hard hat, worn while performing the function. May be required to work overtime and weekends depending on business need.
