What will you be doing if you are offered this position and accept…..

You will be supervising the activities of the Gas Design Technicians (GDTs) and Gas Design Project Managers (GDPMs) performing the design and engineering of additions and modifications to the natural gas transmission and distribution pipeline system for Peoples Gas Systems. You will also be responsible for the development and oversight of the engineering/construction designs to ensure applicable codes, regulatory requirements and company standards are met.


Here are some of the major duties and responsibilities….

  • Approval of work requests, addressing customer priorities and in-service dates; verifying material and labor values, coordinating and forecasting projects, and negotiating deliverable expectations.
  • Mentor direct reports in negotiations, project management coordination, billing accuracy, engineering design, and construction aspects related to new and existing customer gas loads impacting PGS’s distribution system.  
  • Addresses customer and FPSC complaints from initial contact to problem resolution, involving company resources, such as assigned account representatives, as needed. Investigate and implement solutions.    
  • Communicate safety expectations, recognize safety achievement and review safety statistics monthly.   
  • Provide direction for planning, coordination and optimization of resources utilized by PGS’s Operating Divisions with regards to the construction projects within assigned areas.
  • Participate in the system planning of projects related to future natural gas system expansion and modifications, providing consultation and assistance in major load additions and projects of unusual nature.  
  • Manage cost center overtime and capital specific budget; review and approve team member business expenses. 


What must you have before you can be considered…..

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited college/university
  • Valid Florida State Driver’s License with clean driving record
  • Minimum of six (6) years of gas distribution design work experience in a progressively more complex technical assignments.
  • Have demonstrated leadership and management/supervisory skills plus the ability to function successfully within the team environment with consistent positive leadership, customer service, initiative skills and self-motivation to continue to learn.


In addition, if you have the following it will help you stand out above the crowd….

  • A Maintenance of Traffic MOT (ATSSA) certification, and Florida Underground Utilities Contractor license.
  • Experience in AutoCAD and/or Microstation.
  • Familiarity with PHMSA – Pipeline Safety Regulations Part 191 and 192, Florida Administrative Code – Chapter 25-12, Florida Utility Accommodation Manual, Maintenance of Traffic (ATSSA), FDOT Design Standards, and GIS.
