Title: Infrastructure Specialist Progression

This position will be open to internal and external applicants and will close on Sunday August 25th, 2019. 

The Infrastructure Specialist position pays between $60,014  to $75,018.

The Senior Infrastructure Specialist position pays between $62,454 and $83,272.

The Lead Infrastructure Specialist position pays between $86,183 and $114,911. 

All levels are based on skills, experience and education of the successful candidate.

 

Preferences

  • Unix System Administrator with 5+ years of experience, preferably with Oracle Solaris. 
  • Experience with other Unix i.e. HP-UX, AIX, or other SYSTEM V variants.
  • Must be proficient working from a command-line environment. (Familiar with KSH, SH and PFbash)
  • Experience with administering RHEL
  • Experience patching Solaris and/or RHEL systems
  • Familiarity with STIG Security

 

POSITION CONCEPT

Designs, plans, installs, configures, and troubleshoots network, servers, system software, phones, two-way radios, and associated assemblies including equipment for the field SCADA infrastructure.

 

ADVANCEMENT IN PROGRESSION

Infrastructure Specialist – I

 

Performs duties in a supporting role to Senior and Lead levels.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports analysis of infrastructure needs and contributes to design, integration, and installation of present and future technology including communication with vendors regarding available products, enhancements and services

 

  • Supports test and evaluation of hardware/software to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing systems

 

  • Monitors and maintains infrastructure stability while supporting root cause analysis related to malfunctioning or inoperative hardware/software and routine maintenance including scheduled maintenance and backups

 

  • Supports analysis, planning, design, and execution of infrastructure projects including maintenance and creation of documentation related to all components

 

  • Supports installation of hardware/software by third parties

 

  • Ensure the reliability, integrity and usability of SCADA field, two-way radios and telecommunications equipment as directed

 

  • Provides support and training to users relevant to all installed or future infrastructure

 

  • Supports development of an emergency plan to deal with a catastrophic event and ensures plan is updated to meet current business needs

 

  • Supports setup, configuration, moves, etc. to support new hires and movement of personnel and offices

 

  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications

Education

Required:     High School Diploma

Preferred:    Bachelor’s Degree

 

Licenses/Certifications

Required:      Must at all times possess a valid driver's license and meet the acceptable driving record requirements of the Company.

Ability to obtain Tower Climbing Certification within six months.

Ability to obtain Advanced CPR (remote) certification within six months.

 

 

Preferred:    Cisco certifications preferred

 

Experience 

 

Related Experience

Required:     Minimum of ­­­­­­1 year of work experience in information technology or operations is required.

 

Preferred:    Utility information technology and/or Cisco experience. Three to five years of SCADA experience. Basic DC/AC.

 

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)

Required:     General knowledge of data communications, radio frequency, and telecommunications principals and interfaces. Developed knowledge of latest Windows operating system specifications and operation. Developed knowledge of transmission control protocol and internet protocol (TCP/IP), simple network management protocol (SNMP) for management of network devices, and open systems interconnection reference model (OSI) with emphasis on the bottom three layers. Developed knowledge of LAN topologies such as switching, fast Ethernet, and virtual LAN. Ability to use network monitoring tools to gather network statistics and interpret into meaningful information. Ability to identify and evaluate infrastructure needs to justify and recommend solutions. Ability to support all phases of project management, including site planning, installation, migration, and implementation.

 

 

Senior Infrastructure Specialist

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyzes infrastructure needs and contributes to design, integration and installation of present and future technology including communication with vendors regarding available products, enhancements and services

 

  • Tests and evaluates hardware/software to determine efficiency, reliability and compatibility with existing systems

 

  • Monitors and maintains infrastructure stability while performing root cause analysis related to malfunctioning or inoperative hardware/software and routine maintenance including scheduled maintenance and backups

 

  • Manages and coordinates telecommunications activities concerned with planning, acquisition, design, installation, and maintenance of voice, data, and video equipment and systems for an organization

 

  • Leads and participates in studies conducted on existing communications system and equipment, such as present and projected volume of communications, effectiveness and adequacy of system, and estimated equipment replacement and maintenance costs

 

  • Provide analysis, planning, design and execution of infrastructure projects including maintenance and creation of documentation related to all components

 

  • Ensure the reliability, integrity and usability of SCADA field, two-way radios and telecommunications equipment as directed

 

  • Coordinates installation of hardware/software by third-parties

 

  • Provides support and training to users relevant to all installed or future infrastructure

 

  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications

Ability to use network monitoring tools to gather network statistics and interpret into meaningful information. Lead Infrastructure Specialist

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops, finalizes, and updates strategies and plans for infrastructure strategy, data center planning, security (both cyber and physical), telecom, and related IT infrastructure

 

  • Develops, finalizes, and updates emergency plans to deal with catastrophic events

 

  • Leads analysis of infrastructure needs and designs, integrates, and manages installation of present and future technologies; including communications with vendors regarding available products and services and enhancements

 

  • Leads testing and evaluation of hardware/software to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing systems

 

  • Leads monitoring and maintenance of infrastructure stability; performs root cause analysis related to malfunctioning or inoperative hardware/software

Ability to determine O&M infrastructure budgets, including disaster recovery, telephones, networks, servers, some mobile communications and authorize appropriate expenses related to SCADA, radios, and towers; and some software expenses. Contributes to preparation and management of IT capital and O&M budgets. Ability to establish resource requirements for projects, review resource contributions to projects, and make decisions for appropriateness of contributions and resource reallocation. Ability to identify and evaluate infrastructure needs to justify and recommend solutions. Ability to oversee and implement all phases of project management, including leading project planning, installation, migration, and implementation.

         

WORKING CONDITIONS

Primarily office environment with regular field work.  Requires some in-state travel.  Occasionally required to work longer hours and/or on call to handle emergency response as needed.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ REQUIREMENTS

 

Manual dexterity is required to perform computer applications and good vision is required to perform all aspects of the job.  May occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. May occasionally be required to work at elevated heights in possibly hazardous environments or in remote locations requiring hiking.
