We are seeking a skilled and motivated Gas Design Technician (GDT I,II, or III) to join our team and support our distribution system construction and maintenance projects. In this role, you will play a critical part in creating, initiating, and processing work requests, determining customer requirements, preparing piping system designs, and coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure successful project completion. You will also utilize and update GIS and CRM-CIS systems, obtain necessary permits, and work collaboratively with different departments to achieve high customer satisfaction.
Listed below are responsibilities for all levels. Each level will have increased duties, responsibilities, and accomplishments. The position offered will be based on experience and qualifications, and the business and/or technical needs of the department.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct needs and feasibility assessments for new construction projects and load additions, determine project schedules, and represent customers in construction update meetings.
- Create and process work orders and construction requests in PowerPlan and other Work Management systems.
- Perform feasibility and load analysis to determine efficient and reliable solutions, model conditions in software applications, and ensure compliance with system integrity and regulatory requirements.
- Utilize GIS, CAD, and hydraulic modeling (Synergy) software packages to size and draw proposed and existing gas distribution facilities, maintain and update GIS platform, and adhere to company and regulatory guidelines.
- Produce construction plans, easement agreements, and right-of-way permit drawings, ensuring accurate representation of facilities and installation specifications.
- Generate construction cost estimates and revenue projections, communicate the need for construction deposits and other charges, and review financial data for compliance.
- Monitor and process contractor contracts, bid packages, invoices, and other project-related documents.
- Provide engineering and coordination for complex projects, including road relocations, building facility design plans, and distribution system improvements.
- Collaborate with internal departments, customers, engineering firms, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure project success.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent certificate (college degree preferred in a related field such as Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Applied Sciences, or Business Administration).
- Minimum 4 years of related work experience in gas distribution system construction or maintenance projects for Level I. Minimum 2-4 years of experience as a PGS Gas Design Technician I or combined 4 years of PGS and/or directly equivalent distribution design experience with another utility required for Level II (college degree as described above may be considered in lieu of some work experience). Minimum of 2-4 years of experience as a PGS Gas Design Technician I or combined 6 years of PGS and/or directly equivalent distribution design experience with another utility required for Level III(College degree as described above may be considered in lieu of some work experience.)
- Proficiency in utility industry software, including work management systems, GIS, and Customer Information Systems (CIS).
- Knowledge and understanding of past land use and/or utility accommodation guide agreements
- Must have demonstrated and sustained above expected performance as a Gas Design Technician I with the ability and potential for assuming greater responsibility. Must have the technical knowledge and analytical skills needed to interpret site development plans for residential, commercial, and governmental projects and identify impacts to PGS for a Level II
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret site development plans.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective customer interaction and stakeholder coordination.
- Valid Florida Driver License with a safe driving record and a Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) certification.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and prioritization skills.
Working Conditions:
Full-time position with minimum 8-hour workdays, Monday to Friday. Some overtime may be required to meet deadlines and respond to emergencies, Work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Moderate to heavy level of stress depending on customer and agency interactions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS
Physical demand requirements include working in field conditions, walking in rough terrain, lifting objects up to 50 lbs., and wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment in an 8-hour day.
The successful applicant will be required to take and pass a Baseline Medical Examination as part of the pre-employment screening once an offer has been accepted. A pre-employment drug screening, physical (if needed), as well as a background check (including education, employment, criminal and motor vehicle) will also be conducted as part of the pre-employment screening.
