POSITION CONCEPT

Under general supervision, creates, maintains and administers control and measurement systems and databases. Monitors system flow orders, identifies emergencies, and maintains critical communications between various groups to ensure the integrity of the system.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Develops, tests, implements and documents application software for all control and measurement applications
  2. Installs, maintains and upgrades database software and recovers or restores data
  3. Modifies database programs to increase processing performance
  4. Resolves computer hardware/software and interface problems; performs preventative maintenance functions; installs new computer hardware as needed
  5. Develops computer systems support improvements for gas systems operations applications including improving system response, easing operator interactions and providing better tools for operators
  6. Administers SCADA system operations and alarm parameters; performs data and system network duties
  7. Responds to gas systems operations system, pipeline and SCADA emergencies 24 hours/day
  8. Provides data and tools for the following areas: Gas Control: operators to observe, control and operate the transmission system, Gas Supply: conduct gas sales/purchases, evaluate future gas sales/purchases and, Gas Accounting: billing. 
  9. Monitors and manages database backup, logs and journals
  10. Administers database security; specifies various levels of access within databases
  11. Enters codes to create production database
  12. Trains users on new controls and applications software; provides user manuals

Key Internal:      Gas Controllers, Field Technicians, IT Personnel, Management, Telecommunications Personnel, Measurement Analysts, Engineering Personnel, Gas Supply, Accounting, Customer Service 

Key External:     Contractors, Customers, Industry Associations, Vendors, 3rd Party Gas Control Operators and Telecommunications Providers.

 

Education

Required:   Bachelor’s degree, preference in Information Technology, Information Systems or Engineering.

 

Licenses/Certifications

Required:             Must at all times possess a valid driver’s license and meet the acceptable driving record requirements of the Company. Must be able to obtain all applicable Operator Qualifications (OQs) within two years from starting the position.

Preferred:           Minimum of five years of work experience related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position is required.

                             

                             Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA) 

                             Required:        Thorough knowledge of applicable computer programming language. Thorough knowledge, understanding of, and ability to use real-time gas system control computers, applicable operating systems. Ability to understand complex or diverse information, collect and research data, and design workflows and procedures. Must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal office environment. Frequent travel is required. May be required to work overtime and/or be on-call as needed.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ REQUIREMENTS

Regular required to sit up to 2/3 of the time and to stand up to 1/3 of the time. Ability to talk and listen for long periods of time. Manual dexterity is required to perform computer applications and good vision is required to perform all aspects of the job. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
