This position will be open to internal and external applicants and will close on Thursday October 7th, 2021.

Placement in either level is based on skills, experience and education of the successful candidate.

 

Preferences

Experience with permitting is a plus.

Successful candidate must be able to live within 30 minutes of the Clovis office.

Designer

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills.

 

SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, makes initial customer contact with customers requesting new services and coordinates and designs residential, commercial, and minor system improvement projects. Prepares estimates, maps, and assembles work order packages for distribution and transmission construction and maintenance, cathodic protection, and measurement projects. Provides design support on large industrial and/or commercial projects, major system improvements, and highway relocations.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinates initial customer contact for new gas service installation, removals, relocations, customer line extension requests, and gas service/yard line order processing

Interviews customers to acquire essential and necessary information for service order requests; offers suggestions, ideas, and/or options to ensure customer receives information pertinent to their needs

Sets up the service requests for new installations, retirements, and relocations, utilizing and complying with all departmental processes and systems

Establishes project schedules; delegates, monitors, and verifies work on assignments

Coordinates project-related activities, such as right-of-way, easements, permits, and environmental screening

Prepares design, obtains "as builts", and files manually

Initiates, prepares, administers, and monitors customer line extensions and contracts; collects money due

Reconciles and closes work orders; identifies variances as needed, and provides information to assist in department budgeting

Performs field research and inspections to ensure compliance with routine to complex material, equipment, contract or design specifications

Gathers, reviews, enters, summarizes, and maintains records for department or project use

May also perform multiple stores-related duties, such as inventories, ordering, cycle counts, material staging and issuing, and coordinating payment of vendor invoices

May participate in the formulation of Company and industry standards

Communicates technical ideas, recommendations, and evaluations effectively to engineering and non-engineering individuals and groups

 

COMPETENCIES:

Knowledge of gas theory, service delivery process, design, work order process, engineering and technical principles related to utility design or construction

Knowledge of and ability to apply standard engineering/industry principles, practices and regulations, and economic and decision analysis principles to area problems including, but not limited to, transmission, distribution, system planning, financial and regulatory issues, asset utilization, and environmental controls and regulations.

In depth knowledge of relevant Public Regulation Commission and Department of Transportation regulations

Ability to research and interpret field records into a design and estimate

Ability to coordinate projects

Ability to provide resolving customer inquiries and/or complaints in a professional and courteous manner

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED with one to five years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must at all times possess a valid driver's license and meet the acceptable driving record requirements of the Company.

 

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations

Ability to write reports and business correspondence

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from various groups

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to apply the concepts of algebra and trigonometry

 

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Working knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software

 

ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical engineering and design problems with some technical direction. Ability to deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Regularly required to stand up to 1/3 of the time and to sit up to 2/3 of the time. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; however, depending on warehousing and stores responsibilities/location, may regularly lift up to 75 lbs. Requires field work and exposure to the environment in all weather conditions.

Senior Designer

SUMMARY:

Under limited supervision, coordinates and designs complex residential, commercial, large industrial, conversion, reinforcement, and system improvement projects. Prepares estimates, maps and assembles work order packages for distribution and transmission construction and maintenance projects and cathodic protection, and measurement projects.  May assume lead role on large capital projects.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Establishes and coordinates project schedules; delegates, monitors, and verifies work on assignments

Coordinates and assesses project-related activities, including right-of-way, easements, permits, and environmental screening

Assists with the resolution of  complex complaints, including those involving large industrial and commercial customers and the Public Regulation Commission

Prepares customer line extension contracts, reviews design, obtains "as builts", and files manually

Demonstrated ability to coordinate projects

Ability to resolve customer inquiries and/or complaints in a professional and courteous manner
