POSITION CONCEPT: 
The Operations Specialist supports the development and maintenance of all Hazardous Energy Control (HEC) procedures through the Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) software system. Additionally, this position is responsible for coordinating work with station planners and may act as the Outage Coordinator. The Operations Specialist will also provide field training for Operations personnel as required.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administrator for station LOTO software. Creates and maintains HEC procedures/guidelines
  • Perform real time LOTO audits
  • Traces out systems/reference drawings etc. as required
  • Develops, tracks and reviews Preventative Maintenance and work orders and Operation Job Requests (including Hurricane and Cold Weather Protocols)
  • Issues, tracks and maintains Operator radios
  • Evaluates work orders daily for accuracy, priority, and maintenance tag(s)
  • Plans work with maintenance schedulers for daily activities
  • Plans, develops, and coordinates outage work
  • Updates Resource Planning (and Grid Operations) on unit status when required
  • Issues startup/shutdown instructions
  • Assists in planning Operations daily LOTO requirements to ensure the safety of the planned work
  • Develops, oversees, and reviews new equipment HEC procedures and enters into the LOTO software program
  • Tracks and communicates status of fire impairments and MOC’s (Management of Change) items
  • Provides training to plant personnel when required
  • Maintain Generating Availability Data Systems Database (GADS) data as requested

 

EDUCATION:
Required: Valid High School Diploma or valid GED  

 

EXPERIENCE:
Required: Must have experience working with the plant LOTO software system. Must have at least 6 years of coal fired power plant experience and the ability to coordinate and lead outages.

Preferred: Must have successfully completed all modules within the Big Bend Plant Operator progression. 
     
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Preferred: Good working knowledge of the plant LOTO software, including granting access. Must have completed all BB Plant Operator training modules and exhibit a thorough understanding of all plant systems in their entirety (BB1, BB4, CT4, CT5, CT6 and Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG)) as well as all electrical systems. Must possess good judgement and communication skills and demonstrate respect for fellow employees.

 

WORK CONDITIONS:
Job hours are primarily during dayshift with some overtime involved. 
Working conditions consist of work  inside a plant environment which is a hearing protection required area to perform the duties required.

The successful applicant will be required to take and pass a Baseline Medical Examination as part of the pre-employment screening once an offer has been accepted.
