This position is based at Big Bend Station in Florida. The purpose of this posting is to ensure that prospective candidates have completed the Maintenance Mechanic journeymen level skills test. This is a non-shift classification that works a regular day shift schedule (7am-3:30pm). The primary function of this individual is to perform mechanical maintenance on plant equipment. This classification works under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor. 


• Preventive Maintenance of equipment
• Rebuilds of equipment and spare parts
• Removal and replacement of parts and equipment
• Alignments
• Weld repairs
• Cutting & burning with a torch
• Equipment inspections
• Proper rigging of equipment
• Mobile crane operation
• Overhead or bridge crane operations
• Troubleshoot equipment & provide solutions for repairs
• Research parts & review drawings
• Ability to run a maintenance crew if needed
• Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Ability to operate power tools, hand tools and any specialty tools that are needed
• Ability to operate forklifts, man lifts, lulls etc.
• Ability to work on different fuel systems (coal, gas, oil)
• Performs associated responsibilities in accordance with the safe work practices and the Memorandum of Agreement.


Required: High School Diploma or equivalent and Maintenance Mechanic Journeymen certification.
Preferred: Mechanical experience in a Utility Industry/Process Industry.  5 years’ experience Maintenance Mechanic.


Required: Valid Driver's License (NON CDL) / Maintenance Mechanic Journeymen certification.
Preferred: Welder Certified 


This position requires extended periods of either sitting or standing/walking.  Ladders and stairs will need to be climbed for various maintenance tasks and the frequency of climbing and descending on the area of the plant which the person is working and the particular needs of the tsk on any given day.  Examples of the physical requirements may include: 
• Walking up or down numerous flights of stairs
• Climb and descend from ladders
• Communicate verbally and in writing with a need to be able to hear both speech (radio or face-to-face) and alarms
• Ability to perform physical work while bending, stooping, squatting, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting up to 50 pounds, and/or carrying up to 20 pounds
• Entering and inhabiting confined spaces.
