This position will be open to internal and external applicants and will close on Monday June 19th, 2023.

This position pays between $62,200.00 to $77,750.00 and is based on skills, experience and education of the successful candidate.

The successful candidate must live within 30 minutes of the Anthony office.

POSITION CONCEPT 
Works with high degree of independence under general supervision. Leads a utility construction crew to complete small to large project plans and materials into practical, working structures and systems in the field. Projects typically consist of gas pipe maintenance, installation, and related excavation. May participate in design and layout. May inspect contract gas crews.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
1.    Independently plans, organizes, schedules, and leads assigned crew(s) and equipment; participates in the work activities of the crew.
2.    Schedules and coordinates daily job assignments and activities.
3.    Ensures a cooperative and safe work site environment, which often includes various disciplines from other departments and companies.
4.    Ensures that work is performed in compliance with safety guidelines, OSHA, environmental, Company policy and procedures, work standards, various government agency regulations, and other related requirements.
5.    Responds safely and effectively to field emergency situations such as blowing gas lines, gaseous atmospheres, or accidents involving Company structures, employees, or the general public.
6.    Acts as liaison between field operations and designated personnel Conducts on-the-job training and safety sessions.
7.    Ensures that employees have appropriate Operator Qualifications (OQs) for performing tasks; provides direct oversight while performing tasks; inspects weld re-qualifying.
8.    Ensures proper materials are transported to the job site; monitors resource use to contain costs.
9.    Under leadership review, typically conducts and inspects all types of welding, including PE, Oxy- acetylene, ARC, and stopple equipment on high-pressure and large gas transmission pipe.
10.    Anticipates and resolves difficult issues and contract disputes between the Company, customers, government officials and landowners regarding various pipelines, scheduling, and work activities.
11.    Completes and coordinates various reports and completion required to initiate, document, or process work; approves various documents, reports, transaction forms, etc., necessary for planning and implementing activities.
12.    May lead or perform on-site welding, pipefitting duties, and on-the-job training.
13.    May perform advanced measurement and corrosion activities (as needed by location).
14.    May assume next level of supervision for town plant in absence of supervisor as necessitated by location (as needed by location).

QUALIFICATIONS 

 

Education 
Required:    High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)    

 

Licenses/Certifications 
Required:    Must be able to obtain and maintain all applicable Operator Qualifications (OQs). Annual fit testing requirements for respirator and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA). Must possess a valid driver's license and meet the acceptable driving record requirements of the Company. Must obtain and maintain a valid New Mexico Commercial Driver's Licenses (CDL) within one (1) year of hire.

 

Experience     
Related Experience 
Required:    Four (4) years’ field experience in a utility or underground construction industry 
Preferred:    Experience as a NMGC Foreperson and/or successful completion of NMGC Foreperson training

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA) 
Required:    Broad knowledge of gas or underground construction methods, techniques, standards, compliance requirements, technology, regulations, materials, and equipment. Knowledge of Company policies, specifications, and codes pertaining to gas utility construction activities through experience or training. Ability to safely operate and maintain various equipment and hand tools for construction of gas transmission and distribution. Moderate to high mechanical aptitude. Knowledge and experience in field oversight and leadership. Ability to gain cooperation of others.

WORKING CONDITIONS 
Field/plant environment. May be required to work overtime and/or on call and handle emergency response as needed. May be required to work at various job sites, out of town, and/or remote locations for extended periods. Personal protective equipment needed including but are not limited to, safety glasses, puncture resistance boots, hard hat, respirator, and SCBA worn while performing the field functions. 


PHYISCAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS
Frequent standing, walking, bending, twisting, and climbing; occasional sitting (to drive vehicle and operate heavy equipment), lifting/carrying (up to 80 lbs.), reaching, handling, the use of fine dexterity, kneeling, and crouching required. Work requires exposure to extreme heat and cold, high-pressure natural gas, blowing gas, and gas fumes; uneven terrain; exposure to year-round outside weather conditions.
