This position will be open to internal and external applicants and will close on Monday, June 27, 2022. 

 

The Network Infrastructure Specialist position pays between $62,200 to $77,750; the Senior Network Infrastructure Speciailst position pays between  $71,600.00 to $89,500.00; and the Lead Network Infrastrcuture Specialist position pays between $82,400 to $103,000. Placement in any level is based on skills, experience and education of the successful candidate.

 

POSITION CONCEPT 
The Network Infrastructure Specialist is responsible for designing, planning, installing, configuring, supporting, and troubleshooting, including routers, switches, Wi-Fi, NetScalers, and WAN links on new and existing network server infrastructure. This role is also responsible for ensuring all network security controls are in place based on IT Security policies and guidelines. 

 

NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE SPECIALIST
Under general supervision, performs duties in a supporting role to senior and lead levels.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
1.    Conducts analysis of the network infrastructure needs and contributes to the design, integration, and installation of present and future technology, including communication with vendors regarding available products, enhancements, and services

2.    Conducts test and evaluation of hardware/software to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing systems

3.    Monitors and maintains the network infrastructure stability while supporting root cause analysis related to malfunctioning or inoperative hardware/software and routine maintenance, including scheduled maintenance and backups

4.    Conducts analysis, planning, design, and execution of network infrastructure projects, including maintenance and creation of documentation related to all components

5.    Conducts installation of hardware/software by third parties

6.    Provides support and training to users relevant to all installed or future network infrastructure

7.    Conducts the development of an emergency plan to deal with a catastrophic event and ensures the plan is updated to meet current business needs

8.    Conducts setup, configuration, moves, etc. to support new hires and movement of personnel and offices

9.    Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications

QUALIFICATIONS 
Education 
Required:    High School or General Education Diploma 

Preferred:    Bachelor’s Degree in information Technology, Computer Science, or related technology field.
    
Licenses/Certifications 
Required:    Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet the acceptable driving record requirements of the Company.

Preferred:    Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) / Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE)

 

Experience     
Related Experience 
Required:    One (1) year of work experience in networking infrastructure, information technology, or data center operations 

Preferred:    Two (2) years of experience in network administrator role

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA) 
Required:    Hands-on experience with networking, routing, and switching. Developed knowledge of transmission control protocol and internet protocol (TCP/IP), simple network management protocol (SNMP) for management of network devices, and open systems interconnection reference model (OSI) with emphasis on the bottom three layers. Developed knowledge of Local Area Network (LAN) topologies such as switching, fast Ethernet, and virtual LAN. Ability to use network monitoring tools to gather network statistics and interpret meaningful information. Ability to identify and evaluate infrastructure needs to justify and recommend solutions. Ability to support all phases of project management, including site planning, installation, migration, and implementation.
    
NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE SPECIALIST SENIOR
Under limited supervision, performing all duties of the Infrastructure Specialist, in addition to the duties listed below. 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
1.    Analyzes infrastructure needs and contributes to design, integration, and installation of present and future technology, including communication with vendors regarding available products, enhancements, and services

2.    Coordinates installation, tests, and evaluates hardware/software to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing systems by third parties

3.    Administers and coordinates network activities concerned with planning, acquisition, design, installation, and maintenance of voice, data, and video equipment and systems for an organization

4.    Administers and participates in studies conducted on existing communications systems and equipment, such as present and projected volume of communications, effectiveness and adequacy of system, and estimated equipment replacement and maintenance costs

5.    Performs analysis, planning, design, and execution of network infrastructure projects, including maintenance and creation of documentation related to all components

6.    Develops an emergency plan to deal with a catastrophic event and ensures the plan is updated to meet current business needs

7.    Provides all setup, configuration, moves, etc. to support new hires and movement of personnel and offices

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA) 
Required:    Hands-on experience with networking, routing, and switching. Expert knowledge of transmission control protocol and internet protocol (TCP/IP), simple network management protocol (SNMP) for management of network devices, and open systems interconnection reference model (OSI) with emphasis on the bottom three layers. Expert knowledge of LAN topologies such as switching, fast Ethernet, and virtual LAN. Ability to use network monitoring tools to gather network statistics and interpret meaningful information. Working experience with firewalls, Internet Virtual Private Network (VPNs), Wide Area Network (WAN) links, and data center master data service (MDS) platforms. Ability to identify and evaluate infrastructure needs to justify and recommend solutions. Ability to support all phases of project management, including site planning, installation, migration, and implementation.


NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE SPECIALIST LEAD
Under minimal supervision, leads projects, provides expertise, guidance, advice, and mentors the junior Infrastructure Specialist on the best business practices. Functions as a liaison to find, implement and maintain Network Infrastructure solutions that will meet business needs, goals, and objectives. Serves as the subject matter expert in leading the Network and other related IT infrastructure. Responsible for performing all the prior level’s duties and responsibilities, in addition to the duties listed below.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
1.    Develops, finalizes, and updates strategies and plans for network infrastructure strategy, data center planning, security (both cyber and physical), and related IT infrastructure

2.    Develops, finalizes, and updates emergency plans to deal with catastrophic events

3.    Leads analysis of network infrastructure needs and designs, integrates, and manages the installation of present and future technologies, including communications with vendors regarding available products and services and enhancements

4.    Leads testing and evaluation of hardware/software to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing systems

5.    Leads monitoring and maintenance of network infrastructure stability; performs root cause analysis related to malfunctioning or inoperative hardware/software

6.    Manages and coordinates network infrastructure activities concerned with planning, acquisition, design, installation, and maintenance of the network, server, voice, data, and video equipment and systems

7.    Serves as subject matter expert in leading the studies on existing network infrastructure systems and equipment, such as present and projected volumes, effectiveness, and adequacy of systems, and estimated equipment replacement and maintenance costs

8.    Leads analysis, planning, design, and execution of network infrastructure projects, including maintenance and creation of documentation; coordinates installation of hardware and software by third parties; provides support and training to the user on installed and future infrastructure

9.    Leads setup, configuration, moves, etc. to support new hires and movement of personnel and offices

10.    Mentors and train junior Network Infrastructure Specialists in proper business documentation, technical design, and various topics.

 

SUPERVISION
Indirect Supervision:     No direct supervision but may serve in a leadership role temporarily overseeing contractors and other team members who perform the Network Infrastructure Specialist role.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA) 
Required:    In-depth knowledge of networking infrastructure, data communications and principals and interfaces. Ability to determine O&M infrastructure budgets, including disaster recovery, networks, servers, some mobile communications. Contributes to preparation and management of IT capital and O&M budgets. Ability to establish resource requirements for projects, review resource contributions to projects, and make decisions for appropriateness of contributions and resource reallocation. Ability to identify and evaluate networking infrastructure needs to justify and recommend solutions. Ability to oversee and implement all phases of project management, including leading project planning, installation, migration, and implementation.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS 
Office environment. Position requires working longer hours and/or on-call to handle emergency response as needed to meet business needs. Will be required to travel. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 
Manual dexterity is required to perform computer applications and good vision is required to perform all aspects of the job.  May occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. May occasionally be required to work at elevated heights in possibly hazardous environments or in remote locations requiring hiking.
