This position will be open to internal and external applicants and will close on Tuesday January 22, 2019. 

This position pays between $86,183.00  to $114,911.00 and is based on skills, experience and education of the successful candidate.

 

Preferences

Certified Public Aaccountant (CPA) is prefered but not required.

Expereince preparing financial statements

Manages and coordinates the development of internal and external financial statements on both a standalone and consolidated basis. Develops, manages, and implements the strategies and objectives associated with monthly, quarterly, and year-end accounting periods including the coordination of the external audit activities.  Manages the payroll function and related activities and provides accounting management responsibility for all operating cash accounts.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages and coordinates the development and communication of a wide variety of internal and external financial statements on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis on both a standalone and consolidated basis

 

Manages, coordinates, and leads the effort necessary to provide external auditors with a wide range of preliminary and final work papers, documentation, and other information necessary for the conduct and conclusion of the audit function

 

Manages the development of and continuous upgrade of the accounting departments set of internal controls and coordinates controls interfacing with other areas of the Company

 

Manages, coordinates, and facilitates the continuous updating and maintenance of G/L accounts, cost types, location codes, home centers, reporting trees, loads and allocation rules, and all other table maintenance including system access

 

Manages the Company’s payroll function and all related responsibilities

 

Responds to inquiries from various individuals and groups regarding recorded earnings, expenses, and results of operations

 

Manages the preparation and communication of financial results and statistics in the form of surveys and special reports to utility associations and other industry groups

 

Coordinates the activities of consultants; represents the Company in coordinated implementation of financial reporting and related system strategies

 

Shares management responsibility for achieving the goals and strategic objectives of the department

 

Manages high-level special projects and assignments

 

COMPETENCIES:

Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated application of both Regulatory and GAAP accounting concepts, internal control requirements, and financial statement presentation

 

Advanced knowledge of gas utility accounting, ratemaking, internal controls, and company operations

 

Ability to plan, organizes, and meets deadlines and independently executes the objectives of the department

 

Ability to think strategically and develop efficient solutions to diverse and complex business problems

 

Ability to function consistently and accurately in a high stress environment while maintaining the ability to foresee and resolve complex problems and situations

Strong leadership skills and ability to develop and manage relationships

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree from a four-year college of university in accounting, with five to seven years of related experience, to include two years of management experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Certified Public Accountant designation is preferred.

 

Depending upon position and/or geographic location, may be required to possess a valid driver's license and meet the acceptable driving record requirements of the Company.

Advanced written and oral communications skills

 

Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets business periodicals, professional journals, financial reports and legal documents

 

Ability to write complex correspondence

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with the concepts of probability, statistical inference, and financial analysis

 

Ability to apply the concepts of fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

 

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Advanced ability to use personal computer with word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software

 

Advanced ability to use accounting software

 

ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY:

Ability to research, interprets, evaluates, formulates, and makes recommendations based on accounting pronouncements, State and Federal regulation, rulings, cases, and guidelines.  Requires self-initiation and an ability to take minimal direction in developing an understanding of complex accounting, regulatory, and operational issues.  Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in complex situations.  Assignments may be technical and complex in nature, involving the application and consideration of a multitude of accounting standards in both regulated and non-regulated environments.

 

DECISION MAKING:

Makes decisions associated with approving the recording of dollar amounts and units of energy affecting earnings and financial statement account balances utilized internally and externally.  Makes decisions regarding appropriate work tasks for assigned personnel and workflows both departmentally and associated with special projects.  Guidelines and secondary approval levels are available from secondary supervisory levels.

 

SCOPE AND IMPACT:

The functions administered by the department have a significant impact on earnings, financial reports, projected financial information, rate and tax filings, and payments.  Errors are difficult to detect and can have a major impact on financial information relied upon by senior management, other company personnel, stockholders, regulatory agencies, creditors, rating agencies, and other outside parties.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to sit up to 2/3 of the time and to stand, walk, and stoop up to 1/3 of the time.  Good vision and ability to adjust focus is required.  Manual dexterity is required.  Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  May be required to travel and significant overtime to meet deadlines.
