This position will be open to internal and external applicants and will close on Monday, June 12th, 2023.

 

The Engineer I position pays between $71,600 to $89,500, the Engineer II position pays between $82,400 to $103,000, and the Engineer III position pays between $96,200 to $120,250. Salary is based on skills, experience and education of the successful candidate.

Engineer I

 

POSITION CONCEPT

Under general supervision plans, independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, practices and procedures commonly employed in a specific area of assignment. An engineer may be assigned to distribution engineering, pipeline design, measurement engineering, integrity management, pipeline safety management systems, or gas supply modeling. 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provides the engineering expertise necessary to support intermediate projects that are generally conventional in nature
  2. Conducts or participates in studies of intermediate size that evaluate performance, cost, and scheduling criteria of a limited number of alternatives. Applies routine engineering techniques, practices, and procedures in support of operational areas.
  3. Communicates project proposals, status updates recommendations, and evaluations to engineering and non-engineering individuals and groups
  4. Represents the company's interests in intermediate engineering matters
  5. Interacts with and provides technical support consistent with the application of well-established standards to company personnel
  6. Participates in the formulation of Company and industry standards
  7. Provides technical direction and/or activity supervision to contractors and company personnel, as required by specific assignments/projects
  8. Provide accurate monthly project financial reports included but not limited to budgeting, forecasting, work offers, invoice approvals, and actuals tracking

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Required: Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Engineering from a college/university accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET).

 

Licenses/Certifications

Required:Must possess a valid state of New Mexico driver’s license and meet the acceptable driving record requirements of the Company.

Preferred: Engineer Intern (EI) Certification in the state of New Mexico.

 

Related Experience

Required: Zero (0) or more years of engineering experience,

Preferred: Minimum of one year experience in construction or utility related work experience in the natural gas industry, including internships.   

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)

Required: Knowledge of and ability to apply  standard engineering principles, practices, and regulations to, and perform economic and decision analysis studies of issues in areas including, but not limited to,  transmission, distribution,  system planning, pipeline operations, pipeline design, pipeline integrity management, general repair, fitness for service, risk assessment, risk management, and integrity decisions for a variety of pipeline issues, financial and regulatory issues, asset utilization, and environmental controls and regulations.

Ability to read, interpret and apply national, state, and local codes and standards (ANSI, 49 CFR Part 192, ASME, NACE, AASHTO, American Public Works Association, etc.)

PHYISCAL DEMANDS

Frequently required to stand and/or walk up to 1/2 of the time and sit up to 1/2 of the time. Manual dexterity needed with the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, listen, and smell. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Work from an elevated position, such as ladders and platforms. Will be exposed to outside weather conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and natural gas emergencies and situations. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

 

Engineer II

 

POSITION CONCEPT

Under general supervision plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates the engineering work for a total project of moderate scope or for detailed phases of part of a major project. An engineer may be assigned to distribution engineering, pipeline design, measurement engineering, integrity management, pipeline safety management systems, or gas supply modeling.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provides the diverse and advanced engineering and project management expertise associated with large and high-profile projects and/or a number of small projects with many complex features, including defining, preparing, and/or reviewing project estimates, scopes of work, bills of materials, and work offers
  2. Leads or conducts performance, cost and scheduling studies/evaluations that require advanced and innovative techniques and/or the modifications of standard practices and precepts
  3. Provides the operational areas with highly skilled and diversified engineering expertise
  4. Communicates the status of developmental activities, project proposals, descriptions, status updates, recommendations, and evaluations to diverse internal groups in a working or conference type environment
  5. Represents the company's interests in advanced engineering matters
  6. Identifies and resolves broad technical and/or organizational issues affecting the company's goals and objectives
  7. Applies extensive engineering expertise to improve or develop new standards and ensure ongoing improvement through evaluation of current processes
  8. Provides advanced and often highly technical direction and/or activity supervision to contractors and company personnel on a regular, on-going basis
  9. Provide accurate monthly project financial reports included but not limited to budgeting, forecasting, work offers, invoice approvals, and actuals tracking
  10. Functions as a lead for staff engineers, professionals, and technicians and as appropriate, provides training and mentoring to Engineer I and Engineer II

Preferred: Professional Engineering (PE) License

 

Related Experience

Required: Two (2) years of engineering experience, or one (1) year with a master’s degree in Engineering.

Preferred: Minimum of one year experience in construction or utility related work experience in the natural gas industry, including internships.

                               

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)

Required: Broad knowledge and proven ability to apply engineering principles, practices, and regulations to, and perform economic and decision analysis studies of issues in areas including, but not limited to,  transmission, distribution,  system planning, pipeline operations, pipeline design, pipeline integrity management, general repair, fitness for service, risk assessment, risk management, and integrity decisions for a variety of pipeline issues, financial and regulatory issues, asset utilization, and environmental controls and regulations.

Knowledge of federal and state regulations as they pertain to natural gas distribution and transmission as well as company policies.

Solid understanding of gas pipeline construction design, layout, and repair methods, including the ability to read and understand plans and alignment sheets as well as the ability to make informed repair decisions following company protocols.

Demonstrated skill in organizing multiple tasks and managing time effectively to meet deadlines and balance priorities consistent with Company strategies and goals. 

Ability to problem solve and to analyze problems logically and use good judgment.

Strong writing skills including technical documentation and report preparation. 

Proficient in Microsoft Office products, working knowledge of AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Asset Suite, C55, SAP

 

Engineer III

 

POSITION CONCEPT

Under limited supervision plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates large and significant engineering work and/or several small projects that are complex in nature and often functions as a staff advisor and consultant by performing the following duties. 

An engineer may be assigned to distribution engineering, pipeline design, measurement engineering, integrity management, pipeline safety management systems, or gas supply modeling

  1. Provides the diverse and advanced engineering and project management expertise associated with large and high-profile projects and/or a number of small projects with many complex features, including defining, preparing, and/or reviewing project estimates, scopes of work, bills of materials, and work offers

Preferred: Registered Gas Distribution Professional (RGDP), Certified Gas Transmission Professional (CGTP), NACE Pipeline Corrosion Integrity Management (PCIM) certification, NACE CP1, CP2, and/or CP3.

 

Related Experience

Required: Five (5) years of engineering experience, or three (3) years with a master’s degree in Engineering.

Preferred: Minimum of three years of experience in construction or utility related work experience in the natural gas industry, including internships.

                  Experience in corrosion, integrity management, pipeline construction, risk assessment, distribution engineering, pipeline regulatory compliance, hydraulic modeling, gas measurement and regulation, AutoCAD, and/or ArcGIS

                               

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)

Required: Extensive knowledge and proven ability to apply engineering principles, practices, and regulations to, and to perform economic and decision analysis studies of complex issues in areas including, but not limited to,  transmission, distribution,  system planning, pipeline operations, pipeline design, pipeline integrity management, general repair, fitness for service, risk assessment, risk management, and integrity decisions for a variety of pipeline issues, financial and regulatory issues, asset utilization, and environmental controls and regulations.
