This position will be open to internal and external applicants and will close April 20, 2020. 

Salary determination is based on skills, experience and education of the successful candidate.

 

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed.  They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills.

 

SUMMARY:

 

Under general supervision, provides labor support for gas distribution/transmission construction, maintenance, installation and emergency response.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Responds to blowing gas line emergencies and grade one leaks

 

Excavates and backfills trenches

 

Performs intermediate excavation and basic shoring duties

 

Trains on intermediate heavy equipment operation with general oversight from experienced operators

 

Operates and/or maintains construction equipment such as shovel, power tools, jack hammer, and dump truck

 

Qualifies or receives operator qualified (OQ) direct supervision when exposing live gas lines

 

Completes certification and develops full expertise in welding poly ethylene (PE) pipe

 

May perform electrofusion as needed by department

 

Lays gas pipe as the lay out trainee level

 

Installs caution tape and tracer wire, if applicable

 

Learns how to interpret lay out maps and work orders to determine proper location for facilities

 

Loads trucks and prepares supplies

 

Maintains gas distribution and transmission lines, including but not limited to, performing repairs on live gas lines, leak repair, anode installation, etc.

 

Performs various safety tests, including pressure tests, on gas pipelines

 

Inspects equipment daily and notifies Company of damaged or unsafe equipment

 

Completes various reports and transaction forms required to initiate, document, or process work

 

May at times be required to assume the duties of a Senior Crewman (as needed by location)

 

Follows and/or enforces Company procedures and safety guidelines

 

COMPETENCIES:

 

Working knowledge of and ability to operate various power tools

 

Safety related knowledge and methodologies of gas systems

 

Basic knowledge of company policies, procedures, and related government agency regulations

 

Ability to prepare simple reports and transaction forms

 

Ability to exercise good judgment based on training and experience in gas construction

 

Ability to work well with others

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

 

High School Diploma or GED with zero to three years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

 

Must be able to obtain and maintain all applicable Operator Qualifications (OQs).

 

Depending upon position and/or geographic location, may be required to possess a Journeyman Gas Fitter's License.

 

Must obtain a New Mexico commercial driver’s license within six months of hire.

 

Must at all times possess a valid commercial driver's license and meet the acceptable driving record requirements of the Company.

 

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

 

Ability to read and write in English

 

Strong verbal and written communication skills

 

COMPUTER SKILLS:

 

Ability to use and operate a personal computer and any job-related software

 

ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY:

 

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.  May determine correct course of action in case of gas emergency on the job site according to trained procedures.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

Frequent standing, walking, bending, twisting, balancing, and climbing; occasional sitting (to drive vehicle and operate heavy equipment), lifting/carrying (up to 80 lbs.), reaching, handling, the use of fine dexterity, kneeling, and crouching required.

 

Work often requires exposure to extreme heat and cold, uneven terrain, high pressure natural gas, blowing gas, and gas fumes.  Employee is exposed to year-round outside weather conditions. Appropriate personal protection equipment is required.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

 

Construction/field environment. May be required to work overtime and/or be on-call as needed.  May be required to work at various job sites and locations for extended periods.
