This position will be open to internal and external applicants and will close on Monday, September 25, 2023.

 

 The Associate Business Systems Analyst position pays between $54,200 to $67,750. The Business Systems Analyst position pays between $62,200.00 to $77,750.00. The Senior Business Systems Analyst position pays between $74,800 to $93,600. Placement in any level is based on skills, experience and education of the successful candidate.

POSITION CONCEPT 
Responsible for working with management and front-line personnel to analyze, understand business needs and strategies by documenting and implementing the appropriate IT solutions. Serve as a liaison between business partners and IT Development and Support personnel. 

 

ASSOCIATE BUSINESS SYSTEMS ANALYST (ABSA)
Under general supervision, analyzes and understands the business strategy to recommend and document the appropriate IT solutions. Seeks resolution to issues while developing strong business and system knowledge, in addition to performing the duties listed below.  

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
1.    Participate in business process modeling sessions.
2.    Create and update business process decomposition models and functional specifications and assist with technical specification documentation for small to medium-size requests. 
3.    Collect and consolidate required information and data to create analysis documentation under New Mexico Gas Company’s (NMGC) Systems Development Life-Cycle (SDLC) methodology.
4.    Work with business partners to document detailed business requirements for possible systems enablement (automation). Assists with the analysis, evaluation, and recommendation of software/hardware for operational business changes.
5.    Seek resolution to issues and notify appropriate management staff. Identifies process performance enhancements and implementation plan. 
6.    Develop strong business and system knowledge relating to functional areas and assigned Business Unit(s)
7.    Develop strong business and system knowledge relating to functional areas and assigned Business Unit(s)
8.    Write, debug, test, and execute ad-hoc SQL scripts.
9.    Maintain a repository of application documentation.
10.    Coordinate project tasks, resources, and schedules. 

 

SUPERVISION
Indirect Supervision:         May guide and direct Contractors and other team members who perform the BSA role temporarily.

Key Internal:    Regular contact and communication with all levels of management and team members. Frequent contact with departments across the organization and affiliate companies”

QUALIFICATIONS 

 

Education 
Required:    Associate Degree in Information/Computer Science, Business Administration, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Systems, or equivalent discipline. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree (see work experience below).       

 

Licenses/Certifications 
Required:    Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet the acceptable driving record requirements of the Company.

Required:    Two (2) years of related experience performing the Duties and Responsibilities of this position. In lieu of an Associate degree, an additional two (2) years of direct work experience performing the duties and responsibilities of this or a similar position may be considered.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA) 
Required:    Experience in Business Process Analysis, Modeling, and in all phases of an SDLC (Systems Development Lifecycle) methodology. Broad knowledge and understanding of the defined business processes. Working knowledge of business software applications and hardware technologies. Excellent verbal, written, organizational, analytical, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the capacity to interact with business partners, IT team members, and senior management. Ability to work in a collaborative team environment on fast-paced, dynamic projects. Fundamental working knowledge of technical design specifications, IT development tools, and technologies to support an IT Architecture and Strategy. Ability to understand project plans and can articulate roles, project goals, and timelines.
Preferred:    Working knowledge of MS Office Suite, Visio Business Process Modeling, and Entity Relational Modeling tools and Project Management software (i.e., MS Project) is preferred.  Knowledge of Banner, ServiceSuite, Itron FCS, and Microsoft Technologies (SQL Server, BizTalk, Reporting Services, PowerBI, SharePoint, etc.) is a plus. 


BUSINESS SYSTEMS ANALYST (BSA)
Under limited supervision, performs all duties of the ABSA, in addition to the duties listed below.  

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
1.    Facilitate business process modeling sessions to maintain/construct process models.

2.    Create and update business process decomposition models and functional specification to include assisting with technical specification documentation for complex request.  Drives engagement with business partners to document detailed business requirements, for possible systems enablement (automation).   

3.    Coach and mentor junior staff in the application of business process modeling techniques.

4.    Drive the collection and consolidation of required information and data to create analysis documentation under the NMGC’s Systems Development Life-Cycle (SDLC) methodology.

5.    Assist and support the IT Department with the design and development of IT solutions.

6.    Drive the resolution to issues and notify appropriate management staff.

7.    Create and maintain logical data models for assigned Business Unit(s).

8.    Develop application/inter-application test plans, test data requirements, and verifies test results.  Participate in the creation of User Acceptance Test (UAT) plans during the Requirements Definition phase of the SDLC and review/validate UAT results for alignment with business requirements.

9.    Coordinate project tasks, resource, and schedule; monitor and report on budget. 

 

SUPERVISION
Indirect Supervision:         May guide and direct Contractors and other team members who perform the BSA role temporarily. May assume a mentoring role to the ABSA.

SENIOR BUSINESS SYSTEMS ANALYST (SBSA)
Under limited supervision. Responsible for driving the resolution to issues while developing strong business and complex system knowledge relating to NMGC’s entire applications portfolio. To include performing all the duties of ABSA and BSA, in addition to the duties listed below. 

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
1.    Construct and maintain business process models, facilitate business, and process modeling sessions, to create and maintain logical data models for assigned Business Unit(s).  

2.    Practice and demonstrate complex proficiency in state-of-the-art business and systems modeling techniques.

3.    Serve as a primary IT point-of-contact for mid-level business management, addressing the needs of multiple Business Units. Independently conduct interviews with all levels of business management and department leaders to ascertain business needs, and represent and communicate systems requirements that are specific, accurate, and unambiguous. Ensures the resolution of issues and communication of actions to the appropriate management staff.

4.    Coach and mentor staff in the application of business process modeling techniques and the development and implementation of test plans.

5.    Construct and maintain logical business process data models for Business Units and at an Enterprise level.  Determine and subset project-specific process models from the Enterprise Process Model.

6.    Develop strong business and complex system knowledge relating to NMGC’s entire applications portfolio areas and it’s use to enable the related business unit functions.

7.    Participate in long-term planning, strategy planning, goal setting, and budgeting; make recommendations for resource allocation and task assignments. 

8.    Review and oversee peer work product for quality, correctness, adherence to standards and methodologies. 

9.    Establish and communicate team objectives/priorities, coach, and train others on various topics.

10.    Lead small to medium-size projects with oversight from Project or Department Manager. 

 

SUPERVISION
Indirect Supervision:         May guide and direct Contractors and other team members who perform the BSA role temporarily. Will mentor/coach/train the ABSA and BSA levels.

QUALIFICATIONS

Licenses/Certifications 
Required:    Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet the acceptable driving record requirements of the Company.
Preferred:    International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA) Certification

Required:    Eight (8) years of experience performing the Duties and Responsibilities of this or similar position. In lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree, an additional four (4) years of direct work experience performing the duties and responsibilities of this or a similar position may be considered.

Required:    Proficient knowledge of defined business processes and extensive working knowledge of business applications and hardware technologies. Comprehends technical design specifications and possesses strong knowledge of IT development tools and technologies to support an IT Architecture and Strategy. Demonstrated ability to understand and describe the business environment in which a project exists. Ability to evaluate, interpret, create, and communicate structured representations of business requirements. Understand project plans and articulate roles, project goals, and timelines, understanding and identifying critical path tasks and activities. Strong verbal, written, organizational, analytical, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to interact with all levels of business partners, IT team members, and senior management. Demonstrated ability to independently conduct interviews with all management and department leaders to capture, represent, and distinguish between business needs and desires/wants. Extensive experience in Business Process Analysis, Modeling, and in all phases of an SDLC (Systems Development Life Cycle) methodology. Demonstrated ability to lead teams in support of business process analysis efforts and educating others in the proper application of tools and techniques. Proficient knowledge of defined business processes and extensive working knowledge of business applications and hardware technologies. Understands the aspects, components, and requirements of running a successful project – fiscally, functionally, timeline, and quality. Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite, VISIO Business Process Modeling, Entity Relational Modeling tools, and Project Management software (i.e., MS Project).
