This position will be open to internal and external applicants through Sunday, October 1, 2017. 

 

This position pays between $45,008.00  to $56,260.00 and is based on skills, experience and education of the successful candidate. The Accountant II pays between $52,961.00 and $66,201.00 and is based on skills, experience and education of the successful candidate.

 

 

POSITION CONCEPT

 

Applies principles of accounting to analyze a wide range of assigned accounting functions and responsibilities and prepares financial reports.

 

Accountant I

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (D&R)

  • Supports the compilation and analysis of financial information to prepare documentation of business transactions and record entries to general ledger accounts.
  • Allocates, distributes and processes expenses, revenues, receivables, and payables in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and according to business requirements within accounting time schedules.
  • Supports the validation, analysis, and reconciliation of accounting information on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis from interfacing subsidiary software systems.
  • Performs general statistical analyses to determine trends, estimates, significant changes, and writes narrative reports explaining findings.
  • Coordinates and complies financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and participates in the preparation of balance sheets, income statements, and other reports.
  • Reviews and supports validation of contracts, orders, and vouchers.
  • Determines proper handling of financial transactions and approves transactions within designated limits.
  • Monitors compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and company procedures as they apply to accounting transactions and applications.
  • Participates in the installation, modification, documenting, and coordinated implementation of accounting systems and accounting control procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education    

Required:     High School Diploma

Preferred:    Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business (concentration in Accounting or Finance)

 

Licenses/Certifications

Required:     Depending upon position and/or geographic location, may be required to possess a valid driver's license and meet the acceptable driving record requirements of the Company.

 

Experience

 

Related Experience

Required:     With no college degree, minimum of two years of work experience related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position is required. Related experience consists of accounting or finance related job duties.

Preferred:    With college degree, minimum of zero to one year of work experience related to the Duties & Responsibilities of this position is required. Related experience consists of accounting or finance related job duties. Regulated utility experience

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)

Required:     General understanding of and ability to apply federal, state, and local rules, regulations, precedents, established procedures, and applications while exercising general accounting guidance.

Preferred:    General knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) rules and regulations, Company policies and procedures, departmental and interdepartmental procedures, and terminology as applicable to the assigned areas of responsibility.

Accountant II

  • Validates contracts, orders, and vouchers, and prepares adjustments and reports to substantiate individual transactions prior to settlement.
  • Determines proper handling of financial transactions and approves transactions within designated limits.
  • Monitors compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and company procedures as they apply to accounting transactions and applications.
  • Participates in the installation, modification, documenting, and coordinated implementation of accounting systems and accounting control procedures.
  • Participates in and contributes to recommendations for improving the organization's accounting operation.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education    

Required:     High School Diploma

Preferred:    Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance or Business (concentration in Accounting or Finance); or Bachelor’s Degree with a Certified Public Accountant designation

 

Licenses/Certifications

Required:     Depending upon position and/or geographic location, may be required to possess a valid driver's license and meet the acceptable driving record requirements of the Company.

Preferred:     Certified Public Accountant designation or the willingness to pursue CPA in the first six (6) months of employment.
